F01 Large Vehicle Extrication,
Donald Longerbean, WVU Fire Instructor |
| Class will deal with large vehicles,
box grailers, ect. Will cover advanced topics and scenarios in
rescue using both hand tool as well as heavy rescue tools. Actual
hands-on experience will be gained. Class size limited to 20
students. Full turnout gear required. Full eye protection
required. Must be 18 years of age or older. |

F02 Vehicle Fires, Paul Walters,
WVU Fire Instructor, RESA Instructor |
| This class involves classroom and
hands on training in the extinguishment of fires involving means of
transportation using attack lines along with a wide variety of
extinguishing agents. Special attention will be paid to the safety
of the responders. This class will have a live burn.
Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I or equivalent. Full turnout
gear, SCBA and spare bottle required. Class limit 25. Must
be 18 years of age or older. |

F03 Vehicle Extrication
Awareness & Operations, Walt Cavender, WVU and RESA Instructor /
Steve Cavender, WVU and RESA Instructor |
| This class will cover the basic
safety procedures at vehicle extrication scenes. Second part of
class will be hands on dealing with hand tools, hydraulic tools and
actual extrication from a vehicle at the operations level.
Class size limited to 25. Full turnout gear and eye protection
required. Must be 18 years of age or older. |

F04 Engine Company Operations,
Matt Jackson, Ret. Captain, Charleston Fire Department |
| This course will teach the student
the roles and responsibilities of the engine company. Tasks to be
covered will be primary and secondary missions, hose lines, developing
large volume flows and how to develop effective water supplies will be
covered in this class. This is a combination classroom and hands
on course. Full turnout gear required. Class limit 24.

F05 Truck Company Operations,
Phil Hart, RESA and WVU Instructor |
| This class will cover rescue, search
and ventilation techniques and hand tools used in truck company
operations. Aerial positioning and the proper use of ground
ladders and aerial ladders will be stressed. Use of elevated
master streams and also the topics of salvage, overhaul and utility
control will be addressed. Full turnout gear and eye protection
required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Class limited to
25. |

F06 Structural Firefighting,
Lt. Joe Bennett, Clarksburg Fire Department |
| Not your normal basic structural
firefighting course. Class will include extensive use of SCBA (no
beards), basic principles and use of hose lines, sprinkler shut offs,
search lines, rescue, firefighter safety, survival and ventilation.
Majority of class will be hands-on training in both theatrical smoke and
live burn atmospheres. Come prepared to work. Course
requires full turnout gear with SCBA and spare cylinder. Make sure
all equipment is marked. Class size limited to 25 students.
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have completed Firefighter
I. |

F07 Basic Structural
Firefighting for Juniors, Ryan Linville, RESA and WVU Instructor |
| This class will cover basic engine
company skills with hands on use of all fireground equipment. This
class is geared to the entry level firefighter. Full turnout
gear required with SCBA cylinder. Eye protection required.
Must have a signed release from parent or guardian with application.
Limited to 25 students. |

F08 Arson 1 - Arson Detection
for the First Responder, Brad Hartley, Assistant State Fire Marshal |
| This course is designed specifically
to provide a clear definition of the role of initial responder
organizations. It will provide essential knowledge to enable
responders to recognize the potential of an intentionally set fire,
preserve evidence and properly report the information to appropriate
officials. The course includes the following basic topics:
fire behavior, critical observations of the first responder, fire cause,
scene security and evidence preservation, legal considerations and how
to report findings properly to appropriate officials. This
training course is designed specifically for the firefighter who is
inexperienced in arson detection and the preserving of evidence at the
fire scene. It is not designed for the arson-experienced
firefighter or investigator. This is a National Fire Academy
class. Must be 18 years of age or older. |

F09 Incident Command System,

| One of the recommended officers'
courses, ICS teaches the National Fire Academy's Model Incident
Management System using a wide variety of incident scenarios. |

F10 Incident Safety Officer,
Rodney Strait, WVU and RESA Instructor |
| This course examines the Safety
Officer's role at emergency responses. A specific focus on
operations within an Incident Command System (ICS) as a Safety Officer
is a main theme. Response to all-hazards types of situations will
be emphasized. Target Audience: Individuals who have a
Safety Officer responsibility at emergency operation situations.
Persons attending this course should have a working knowledge of ICS as
taught by the NFA, building constructions principles, hazardous
materials management, applicable NFPA guidelines and Federal
regulations. |

F11 Advanced Rapid Intervention,
Virgil White, Captain Charleston Fire Department / John Taylor III, WVU
and RESA Instructor |
| This training program meets NFPA
1500's requirements for Rapid Intervention Teams. Multiple
scenarios involving rescue of downed firefighters will be offered
including teaching firefighters performing this valuable function how to
breach walls, lift collapsed structural elements, perform hot SCBA
changes and learn valuable self-rescue procedures.
Prerequisites: Firefighter I. Full turnout gear and SCBA required.
Must be 18 years of age or older. |

F12 Emergency Vehicle Driving,
David Fox, RESA and WVU Instructor |
| This is a combination classroom and
practical skills training about emergency vehicle operations.
Safety, legal aspects, inspection and driver responsibilities are
covered. Both written and practical examinations are administered.
This class meets WV State Fire Commission and State EMS initial driver
training requirements/recommendations. The course is designed to
meet DOT and NFPA standards. Students must bring their own
apparatus if they wish to take driving part in their own equipment.
Prerequisites: Must have proof of valid WV operators license or other
state drivers license. Must be 18 years of age or older. 16
hours. |

F13 ATV Search & Rescue, Tim
Arthur, RESA Instructor |
| This class is designed to teach
firefighters and emergency responders the basic skill necessary to
perform search and rescue operations using ATVs. On the first day
students will learn basic search tactics and resources, land navigation
skills, patient packaging and basic tracking. On the second day
the students will be practicing these new skills outdoors with practical
evolutions. All participants need to bring an ATV, helmet and
eye protection. Full protective gear required. Must be 18
years of age or older. Class limit 15. |

F14 NFIRS - National Fire Incident Reporting Systems,
Carol Nolte, Deputy State Fire Marshal |
| This 8 hour introductory class covers the basics of
participation in the National Fire Incident Reporting Systems (NFIRS)
Version 5.0, including data management principles, State Code
requirements for incident reporting, entering, saving and retrieving
required modules according to incident type and correction validation
errors. This class is recommended for the FD's who are just
beginning in computerized fire incident reporting, or those who are
planning to upgrade to 5.0. Although the class is geared for those
with very basic computer skills, individuals with intermediate computer
capabilities will also benefit from the training. |
